"Energy renovation of buildings is growing in importance and represents a bright point in the seven-year long crisis for the construction industry. The exit can be found in the energy renovation of buildings, because significant resources exist in the EU funds that are available to us”, said Ms. Mirjana Čagalj, Croatian Chamber of Economy’s Vice-President for Construction, Transport and Communications at the round table named “Energy Renovation in Protected Areas”, which took place in the Croatian Chamber of Economy with a view to open a broader discussion on current problems in the energy renovation of protected areas’ buildings and to provide guidelines and solutions for improvements.

“The project that has been ongoing for almost three years - Energy Renovation of Buildings – is developing well and the energy renovation of buildings in protected areas should be taken into consideration in its second phase”, said Mr. Dražen Pomper, Director of the property management company Monel d.o.o. He has also added that the energy renovation of the cultural heritage buildings is necessary in order to prolong their life cycle and to keep them suitable for housing. It is necessary to respect their typology and shape, use the original tone materials and techniques, and take the historical significance of the building into consideration.

"Monument property features should be clearly indicated for each protected cultural heritage building. It is necessary to obtain the conservation documents and the master project certificate. It is also very important to secure the cooperation between the designers and conservators-restorers from the very start of the project”, said the Head of the Conservation Department in Krapina, Ms. Lana Križaj and added that the static stability of the building structure and application of moisture protection represent prerequisites for renovations.
